My personal preference has always been to keep such info on my own computer; updating the non-input fields is only a one-liner, and any time I decide that the system doesn't do something that I want, I can fix it myself. Yes, I know that this doesn't work for everyone....

Yes, I agree that user selection is best, but it would require coding a new user interface and adding a field to the database. The other two are simpler, since they could be implemented using existing data. I am still carrying data for a vehicle I traded 4 years ago and that is my default.

Defaulting to the most recent model year isn't, to me, any better an option than the current default, because so many people have multiple cars and the primary vehicle may not be the newest model year. Defaulting to the vehicle with the most recent purchase entry, if you drive multiple vehicles, is not much better a choice than the current default, because you're still likely to need to change the vehicle for posting.
I favor the obvious choice of "user selection".
