I keep fuel logbook entries for an old vehicle for reference. The fuel logbook always opens to this old vehicle, not the one I am currently using.

I'd suggest any of the following fixes:
- Default to the most recent model year
- Default to the vehicle with the most recent purchase entry
- Allw the user to set the default vehicle

My personal preference has always been to keep such info on my own computer; updating the non-input fields is only a one-liner, and any time I decide that the system doesn't do something that I want, I can fix it myself. Yes, I know that this doesn't work for everyone....

Yes, I agree that user selection is best, but it would require coding a new user interface and adding a field to the database.

The other two are simpler, since they could be implemented using existing data.

I am still carrying data for a vehicle I traded 4 years ago and that is my default.

Defaulting to the most recent model year isn't, to me, any better an option than the current default, because so many people have multiple cars and the primary vehicle may not be the newest model year. Defaulting to the vehicle with the most recent purchase entry, if you drive multiple vehicles, is not much better a choice than the current default, because you're still likely to need to change the vehicle for posting.

I favor the obvious choice of "user selection".

This is one of my pet peeves. I have posted it many time in the past, but it has aged off the forum.
