"The California Energy Commission approved funding of $35 million to projects that will accelerate the development of green fuels and technology in California. These investments reduce the state’s dependence on foreign oil, improve the environment and help California attain its climate change policies."

Whats another 35 million when you are already 16 billion in the hole.

"California attain its climate change policies"
So the rest of the nation gets to pay for their privet feel good policies, wonderful.
Don't they realize its not 2007 any more and fraud driven climate change agendas have been exposed?

CA will not succeed where the feds have also miserably failed..they are just pulling an "Obama" and taking your tax dollars and funnelling them to their friends and political supporters. Wake Up CA! You are getting raped by Wash DC and your own state and local politicians.

From the article:

"California, the most populous U.S. State, is still recovering from the 2008-2009 financial crisis that induced the worst recession since the 1930s. In April, California's tax revenues came in $2.44 billion below the state's estimate, largely due to weaker-than-expected revenue from personal income taxes.

Spending cuts have also been below what was projected, Brown said, blaming legal and federal constraints. "The federal government and the courts have blocked us from making billions of necessary budget reductions," he said."

Wasn't a large part of the crisis related to the mortgage industry collapse?

High energy costs contribute to things yes. But myopicly stating that "The reason most states are broke is because over half a trillion a year is going into foreign derived energy." is not true. Government spending at both the state and federal level has been out of control for years and these problems did not magically appear when energy prices went up. They exsisted even when you were paying $2.00 or less for your gas.

The reason most states are broke is because over half a trillion a year is going into foreign derived energy.

Just ask T-Boone. Yeah I know he's invested in natural gas, but he has that figure right. 700 BILLION to foreign interests every year thanks to the single source of fuel that dominates our transportation system.

What is needed is a diverse pool of sources and consumer choices for a true market driven industry. Get the oil lobby out of Washington today!

While I certainly applaud any effort to take care of the environment since it's the only one we have, I have to question anyone's celebration of the fact that the state of California is giving away any money to anything not currently in their budget based on the fact that as a state they are broke.

If I was a resident of California I would be livid right now.http://news.yahoo.com/california-budget-hole-deepens-16-billion-governor-010911886--sector.html
