Hi I have a 2006 Ion Level 2. It now has 73000 miles on it. Some times the starter will stick on occasionally.?

I apologize for bumping an old topic, but I'm looking for a bit of advice regarding my '05 Ion. Reading through the "recent" posts, I am happy to see that I'm not the only one with the frozen ignition problem. We have experienced that issue since we got the car. The ignition (and subsequently, the radio) has been replaced and we still fight the car on cold mornings - and in east central Illinois, we have lots of COLD mornings. Be very careful if the freezing problem occurs - your radio can put itself into theft mode and totally lock up. Unless you know the magic security code and its entered properly, you'll need a new one. Fortunately, my car was under warranty when that happened.
My current problem is also semi-radio related. Several weeks ago, hubby left the windows down and it rained. The interior got soaked. Water got into the power window wiring and was able to travel along the wiring into the dash where it temporarily shorted out the radio. A mechanic friend explained what happened and how to fix that problem. It rained heavily Tuesday night, the car was parked outside. Hopped in Wednesday morning and the radio wasn't working again. I noticed the driver's side floor mat was soaked. And the windows had been UP this time! I suspect the insulation/weather strip along the roof of the car is to blame. I can see the grey material along the seam on the roof and I wonder if its failing. Has anyone else encountered a leak in their roof? I don't have a sunroof, so I can't blame that. The radio is working again, sort of. But I worry about the next rainy day.
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. Thanks!
PS - to answer the original question... I like lots of things about my Ion, and I don't like a few things (like the cold weather problems). The likes outweigh the dislikes and I would gleefully own another Saturn.

I had that same problem. It happened about 4-5 times for me. They replaced the ignition switch for that same reason. But I had to pay for it. I've got an 03

Further on that starting problem I told y'all about on 2/23:
So someone wrote in to Bob Weber, "Motormouth", of the Chicago Tribune with the same problem I had. You can contact him at :motormouth_trib@verizon.net. He looked into it & says another possible cause is a malfunction of the Passlok security system where your key isn't "read" properly by the computer. He suggests anyone having this problem to leave your car at the dealership overnite for service.

So last Friday nite when it was really cold here, my Ion didn't wanna start. After about 15 minutes, it finally turned over. I took it to the dealership, where my Service Manager knew exactly what the problem was. Apparently, there's a small amount of lubrication in the ignition switch that freezes in extremely cold weather. Apparently, there's been a recall issued on the switches(I'm assuming on certain 2003 models 'cuz that's what I got). It was replaced free of charge.
Now I also had this problem where the car was idling a little high, so they replaced the engine control module (ecm) free of charge, also (my car is still under factory warranty).
My service dep't completed both tasks & washed the car in like 45 minutes. I luv my Saturn.....

I bought my first Saturn in May when my husband's car died. It is a 2005 Pacific Blue Ion-2. We love it. The center display is nice since I'm short (Under 5 feet) and don't have to squint around the steering wheel to check the gauges. My tall husband (over 6 feet) likes it also. It was the only car that we test drove in which both of us are comfortable. I love how quiet the engine is.
Today we went to Saturn Day at the Columbus, OH Zoo. Saw all the new models including the 2007 Sky Roadster. Cute car, but we aren't convertable fans.

My mom owns a 2004 ion sedan and I am using it now and actually LOVE the center display, mainly due to the fact that in my old SL2 I was unable to actually see my speedometer easily since I have a longer upper body and the steering wheel blocked the display.

Just got a brand new 2006 ION3 quad coupe & I love it!! It's my third Saturn & I wouldn't want anything else. bwalker, if you haven't made up your mind yet I say GET IT GET IT GET IT!!!! I leased a blue 1999 (I think) SC1 & then financed a beautiful 2001 red SC2. Absolutely loved that car, but I always get that itch for a new car after about three years, so when they started the GM employee discount program I went in to check it out (still had a year of financing left). Actually worked out better for me to get the 2006 & lease it. The GM discount was only for 2005's but what they're doing is lowering the sticker prices on the 2006s!! Anyway, I've had it for a week...it's the gorgeous Pacific Blue...and I love it. It's my third Saturn & there is absolutely no other car I would want in this world than a Saturn. Sure I love Lamborghini's...but how good is their gas mileage anyway?? LOL
I LOVE MY SATURN!!

I have a 2003 rainforest green ion2 with spoiler and graytrim on sides by windows, I got it last year with only 1,640 miles on it.
When i first got it I had a run of bad luck with it inlcuding having the windshield break not even 1 month of having it then replacing it and then having it break again two months later then 2 months after that getting into a fender bender that involved replacing the whole front bumper. But now it's ok except that my check engine light came on the other day and stayed on for the next day and got it check out and it was nothing. What i do like about it is the center dash panel it's so much better for drving then always looking down to see what speed ur going, which i was doing with my saturn before this one which was a 99 purple sl2

I own a 2004 ION 3. The first time I saw it, I fell in love with it. Before the ION, I owned a 1999 SL2. Almost brought a Vue, but it was a bit much for me. Love me a Saturn car!

My first new car was a 1999 saturn SL1 and it was a great car. Then I bought a Neon i hated it so much that I got rid of it after 2 years and Bought a Ion. I am now a member of the Saturn Family 4 life. If I have another kid I'm buying a Relay for sure.

I own a 2003 Ion 3 with the sports package & I love it more now than the day I bought it! Even if I were to win the Lottery, I'd run down to Saturn of Oak Lawn & buy a fleet of various Saturns for my family & in-laws! I'm now a Saturn owner for life. As long as GM keeps building 'em, I'll keep buying 'em!
