I just purchased a 2002 SL1 with 85,000 miles for my daughter to drive to school and work. Seems to be a pretty nice, solid vehicle. We've never owned a Saturn. What can we expect? Anything to watch out for?

The only thing that bothered me is that the transmission went in it at 40,000... miles or so. It was hard to believe. It was used of course so maybe the dealer knew it. Anyway, my Saturn hasn't given me any trouble except for upkeep. A pretty reliable car! Good gas mileage too. I'm happy.

Marvel mystery oil. I haven't heard that for 30 years. Engines are much different now. I wouldn't put that in the gas tank. As for when to change the oil that 3,000k thing is out dated too. Oil is much different today than it was 5 or or 10 or 30 years ago. Last longer, more durable etc. Follow the manufactures guide. My new cars go 7,000k between changes. My 97 has over 150,000 with the same timing chain, oil pump etc and the oil was changed any where from 5k to 10k.

Always never listen to saturn haters- they have a tainted view of the car. ALways change the oil at minimum of 3k-3.5k miles, change out your pcv and air filters, rotate the tires, some marvel mystery oil added to the fuel wouldn't kill it, but may actually take care of the engine a bit longer.
