I have a 2006 GTO, 6.0 liter, 6 speed manual transmission. It's a great car and we love it. We're getting between 26 and 26.6 mpg!
The only downfall of owning this car is the tires. Seems to go through tires every 6 months. We don't spin them, fly around corners or peel out, but they seem to wear out quick. The back more than the front. Maybe because of the torque?
I've heard of people buying the new GTO, then complaining about the trunk space. This is a sports car! That would be like someone buying a Mustang GT and expecting to fit 4 adults in it. LOL

As long as you've got the money for the tires, knock yourself out!

Hey I love my goat!!! Been thru 2sets of tires in one year. The edges wear out too fast. Guess I should slow down on the curves? Naa,it's too much fun. The red leather with red suade looks very cool.

I owned a '68 GTO that was a wonderful car. Looked good and had great body lines. I now own a supercharged 6-speed '06 that has a little over 500 HP and handles great. Wonderful little car to take on trips as well as play with around town. Not bad on gas either.

Remember what the original GTO was though, an option package. Other than some badges, you might not know that it was a GTO.
That's what I liked about the last iteration of the GTO, it was the real deal and it didn't stick out like a sore thumb.
To each their own though I suppose.

I've got an '06 with a 6-speed. I've owned several muscle cars through the years including a 69 Z-28. The GTO is far and away the best car I've ever owned. The driving experience is beyond compare. The LS2 has a very wide powerband and mates well with the superb handling. Car is incredibly comfortable and rattle-free. Not bad on gas either. Mine gets 17 City and 26 Hwy if you can keep your foot out of it. Most people who discount the new GTO as worthy of wearing the badge have never driven one.

They were the real deal, if you liked a lot of straight line power with little stopping power and no cornering ability.
I love old muscle cars, don't get me wrong, but, let's face it, cars built now are better at everything, power, gas mileage, braking, cornering and quality.

The newer GTOs are fine...if you don't mind the teensy trunk.
Wait for the new ones...sedan version will be called the G8, and coupe will be the GTO, and in 2009, they'll really have a trunk!
The G8 is slated to get the 362hp engine...GTO will likely get the LS2 for 400hp. Yay!

I own an 05. I really enjoy driving this car, great handling and tire smokin' 400hp for the same price as a lower quality mustang. 26 to 27 mpg on the highway isn't too bad either.

The car is a good looking car, typical of the muscle cars that began the genre, big engines in a non-descpript vehicle, making it a bit of a sleeper. Yes, we all remember the GTO Judges and Cuda's and Road Runners with the loud graphics and humongous hockey stick stripes, but, a muscle machine is about what's under the hood, not what's stuck to the paint work.
The GTO is a great car, and was never meant to go past the three years is was sold here. GM knew the Aussie Holden Monaro, the car the GTO is based on, wasn't going to meet 2007 safety standards in this country, but, set it up to be sold here in the U.S. anyway. When the new Camaro comes out, expect a Pontiac version of the platform, a bit longer according to reports and a new GTO in either 2009 or 2010.

The new GTO's are awesome car's, and thats from a recently former salesman of them. But they are priced a little too steep for most of us. And yes, a repalcement should be out in 08 at the latest. When has pontiac not had a muscle car? My point exactly.

"GM, Pontiac. The GTO will be be discontinued at the end of this model year, with the last deliveries arriving at dealers by the end of September. The reasons behind the GTO's demise are many, but ultimately it came down to the fact that the architecture that the car is based on (from GM's Holden division in Australia) is going out of production in preparation for the company's newly revised ZETA RWD program. The GTO was one of the first things that Bob Lutz did to jump-start the Pontiac Division when he came on board at GM. Even though the plan was well-intentioned, the GTO suffered from unfair comparisons to the original GTO (not that any of the hard-core GTO enthusiasts could actually define what a modern GTO should look like), among other things, but the biggest problem for the car from our perspective was that it just cost too much money. If GM could have brought the car in for the mid-$20,000 range at intro, it would have taken off, big time. We made no bones about the fact that we loved the GTO, and the plain looks of the car never bothered us. After all, the original was a Pontiac Tempest with dog-dish hub caps and a couple of fake scoops in the hood, about as bland of a car as you could get back then. But the proof of the original was in the performance, just like the current GTO, which, if you haven't driven one you're missing out, because it is simply a blast to drive. The current car also has one of GM's finest interiors, and we find the overall package to be outstanding, which is why we called the GTO our Autoextremist "High-Performance Value of the Year." The retirement of the GTO presents a real quandary for the Pontiac Division, as the GTO is really the only other car besides the Solstice that is true to the brand's mission within GM's divisional structure. Pontiac had a narrow window of opportunity with the car, but now that's gone, which is a shame. So if you like RWD high-performance, you owe it to yourself to check out the GTO before it disappears. And by the way, Pontiac enthusiasts shouldn't give up on the brand just yet, as there is a RWD performance car coming for the division. After the new Camaro makes its street debut as a 2008 model, watch for an all-new Pontiac Firebird to debut 12 months later as a 2009 model. You read it here first." by: http://www.autoextremist.com

Last year for current style. After that it'll be on the zeta lite platform, so it'll probably be an improvement over the current one.

I really like the styling of the new GTO. I would love to have one, but... V8 not practical and neither is rear-wheel drive in Indiana in the winter. Too bad they don't have a 6-cylinder model with a 3800 series engine; I realize that the GTO is a "muscle car", but since Pontiac screwed-up the looks of the Grand Prix, this is the best they have.
My favorite GTO would be "THE JUDGE".

GTO's are my favorite cars! I will have one of my own one day. I like the old and knew style. I friend's step-dad of my brothers re-did a GTO and sold it for a lot of money. I like the black cars the best. The color and style is sharp.

The poor sales in the GTO is due to a slight lack of style. Mechanically it's a GREAT car, the styleing just has to be a bit more aggressive, and a few minor changes have to be made so it's up to canadian safety regulations.

My son got an 04. Sucks gas. Purrs nice. Doesn't feel comfortable till you hit 80mph. Awesome to drive but I am sure you will get a ticket someday if you own one. This car just begs to be driven. Just remember you are paying for the engine. If you want a fancy interior get a Gran Prix GXP. The interior is outdated and sparse. Damn thing doesn't even have an outside temp gauge.

Have a '67 GTO. Almost bought a new GTO but couldn't imagine having to pay $600/mo for the next six or so years. Not worth it. Will restore my '67.

I stated in my Grand Prix forum that they look like a cross between the old style (pre 2000ish) Pontiac Grand Am's and a Sunfire.
It would have been nice if they kinda followed Ford's lead with the Mustang and brought back the old style.

I'd wait for a leftover model or a used one. Way overpriced at the outset. I do love them though.
