Detroit needs to make a hybrid that gets over 50 mpg for me to even think about switching from my Sentra which never gets less that 30 mpg in town with the AC hitting every light. Hypermiling on the highway over 40 mpg.

I don't know any ford fusion that goes 81 mpg unless they were going so slow and all down hill then it might. I have seen the youtub video and they jacked up the car so they can put more fuel into it. They should not have done that because when you fill up a car you don't jack up your car. They also pulled so slow out the parking lot. Who does that no one. I wonder how slow did they go down the highway. They could have been a road hazard to others when they started out at stop signs and stop lights going very slow until the car picks up speed by it self. I do have a 2010 Ford Fusion hybrid and I do not get that milage and not even close. I get 37 mpg average all miles. I am always trying for better fuel milage

my toss up was between a honda insight or toyota prius. I ended up with a Ford Fusion hybrid for more space.. Im loving it as the price in crude speculators spike the gas prices at the pumps.

and yes guy who made that article drove below the speedlimits to achieve that number for 81 mph. Alot of hypermilling ...

That is too cool!

Of course, you have to do some serious hypermiling to get such results - but I believe that this speaks well for the Fusion. I have my eye on something from Detroit, and unless the Volt turns out to be a real gem, and worth forty train, I will be buying a Fusion soon.
